Wendy Pettifer's

The Witching Hour

I write about family, about having been a single parent and the joy of becoming a grandmother.  I muse on relationships lost and found, old and new and how little we ever really know about another.

Welcome to the World of Wendy's Poems

Dear friends, the best way to order the book for the moment is to send over £8 using the Paypal button at the top of this page.

I have chosen Care4Calais as the charity to which net sale proceeds will be donated.  I have worked with them since 2016 and am currently a pro bono legal adviser to their support and accommodation teams across the UK.

Care4Calais is a fantastic organization with many dedicated volunteers who provide an extensive network of support for migrants both in Calais, and, since 2019 on their arrival in the UK.  They link the mostly young men, but also unaccompanied minors and families to lawyers, provide food and clothing, social activities like football and singing, and top up phones.  Care4Calais sometimes pays for a hotel rooms if a person is street homeless.  They continued to provide face to face support throughout the pandemic, often being the only organisation physically present at hotels.

They rely on donations.  I am charging £7 for the book £8 including packaging. You can pay through Paypal or directly to me if you email me at pettiferwendy@hotmail.com or message me on Twitter @WendyPettifer.  If you live in Hackney, we deliver directly, and you can pay by cash or cheque on delivery.  You can also donate directly to Care4Calais, but please let me know if you do, with the date and the amount.

Wendy Pettifer

Hi, I’m Wendy, an active Hackney Labour party socialist internationalist, legal aid solicitor, fighter for Migrants Rights, poet, cancer survivor. I believe anything is possible.

I wrote my first poem when I was 13.  It starts: “the world has a great wound where Vietnam used to be” and I guess such sentiments have influenced my life ever since.  It is only in my 60s, after a life of adventure, as a mother, daughter, lawyer, lover, traveller, grandmother that I have had time to publish some of my poems.
